Dec.20.2019 - Assuming the European Parliament also gives the green light, the UK will formally leave the EU on 31 January, 2020 with a withdrawal deal and it will then go into a transition period that is scheduled to end on 31 December 2020.
During this period the UK will effectively remain in the EU's customs union and single market - but will be outside the political institutions and there will be no British members of the European Parliament.
The first priority will be to negotiate a trade deal with the EU. The UK wants as much access as possible for its goods and services to the EU. MORE

A new survey suggests that 87 per cent of Canadians feel that food prices are rising at a faster rate than their household income.
The survey, released by Dalhousie University, did a nationwide scan for what Canadians’ perceptions were on food affordability, as well as on what they were willing to do to offset the costs of food inflation next year.
“We’ve done a survey on Canadians in terms of perceived food affordability because everyone enjoys complaining about food prices,” said Sylvain Charlebois, senior director of Dalhousie’s Agri-Food Analytics Lab. “But the real question is whether or not Canadians actually feel that they’re falling behind relative to their revenues.” MORE
